Injured Uasin Gishu Senator Isaac Melly
There were chaos when the University of Eldoret led by senator Isaac Melly held a demonestration that was aimed at chasing away non-locals from the university. The bone of contetion is said to be Professor Akenga the VC.
Professor Akenga hails from the Luhyia community and the locals want one of their own to lead the University. They have been allegations of corruption and nepotism being levelled against Akenga but the aim was to tarnish her name and have one of their own appointed the VC.
Police engaged students and other villagers in running battles with smell of tear gas all over the place. The senator Mr. Isaac Melly was also injured when police roughed him the hard way. It is such a shameful act by not only the leaders from the region but also the villagers who think that it is time to eat and that their own should be the VC. Reports further indicate that even students from outside the community were not spared and were all chased out of the university premises.
